The Moment I Knew by Samantha Kool COE
My new client and I were sitting in my treatment room getting ready to start discussing skincare related issues and the proposed course of treatment for the day. I couldn’t help but notice that she had little to no hair on her head. I asked her if she would share with me why that was the case. She mentioned she was in active treatment for breast cancer and had lost her hair.
I asked her if she had let any of the ladies at the front desk know she was in treatment or perhaps when she called in to book the appointment? She explained she booked her appointment online so she could avoid speaking to anyone on the phone. She then went on to explain in times past when she had disclosed her health information she had been turned away from several spas citing they did not have the properly trained staff or simply did not offer oncology safe services.
My client was so desperate to have her irritated and inflamed skin treated that she was willing to potentially put herself in harm's way by not disclosing her health condition.
It was then I realized I could make a significant difference in my community by offering safe and effective skin care treatments for those dealing with the effects of cancer on the skin. It is possible to enjoy spa services while on a cancer journey. As with most things, there are considerations for the timing, protocols and products used for the treatments and knowing how to make the correct modifications during a treatment is imperative for safety.
Quality of life is an important factor in how we live each day. Spa services exist to support and nourish our mind body connection as well as to take care of our skin which is the largest organ of our body.
If you are living with cancer or know someone who is, please reach out to an oncology certified esthetician in your area for skin care services that are both safe and effective.
At Sava Face & Body we offer a complimentary skincare consultation to answer questions about what products and skin care treatments are right for you.
